Mental Health Week Special: Youth Focus

Youth Focus is a unique independent for-purpose organisation that supports vulnerable young people in Western Australia by offering a range of free and uncapped mental health services. It operates with a team of highly trained and skilled psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists to provide a range of early intervention and prevention services free of charge, aimed at supporting young people and their families to overcome the issues associated with suicide, depression, anxiety and self-harm.

Recently the Oqea team had the pleasure of participating in a youth mental health seminar run by Youth Focus Education Facilitator Mike Fitzpatrick who has a wealth of knowledge and experience educating children and their supporters on mental health in WA.

During the seminar he shared with us a resource he found particularly useful in teaching kids how to recognize and support those in distress around them. Sometimes simplicity is key!

For more resources and information about Youth Focus services visit their website.

Oqea is participating in the 2022 Hawaiian Ride for Youth charity cycling event and we need you. Your generosity will assist Youth Focus, the ride beneficiary to deliver lifesaving frontline counselling services to thousands of young Western Australians uncapped and free of charge, ensuring nobody is left without the support they need and deserve. During this year alone Youth Focus counselling services have increased by 34%, now serving over 6,000 your people per year. It is a clear statistic to demonstrate that the continued provision of services to young people are much needed and valued in the Western Australian community.
