Meet Wellbeing Physiotherapy

Written by

Wellbeing Physiotherapy is a a person-centered Physiotherapy service in West Leederville that offers treatment for a variety of physical aches and pains including back pain, headaches, chronic pain and more. Kevin and Peggy Lau, a husband wife duo started the practice in 2014 with the aims of providing a service that would not only benefit the physical body, but also the mental, spiritual and social aspects of a persons’ life. We sat down with them both to understand a little more about their clinical philosophy and why they chose to embed Oqea within their practice.

Kevin and Peggy, tell us about a day in the life of your practice.

For Kevin, he listens to the clients’ stories, treat their symptoms, empowers them to take a positive approach to manage their concerns and make changes to their lifestyle.  He often laughs with the clients together. To see a client walk out of the room with hope and anticipation is the special moment for Kevin.

For Peggy, assisting clients with bookings and scheduling of appointment, connecting them with other therapies and health professionals. Seeing clients walking in the clinic with pain and despair, but coming out of the treatment room with a beautiful smile is the special moment for Peggy.

What are the most common complaints you treat at Wellbeing Physiotherapy?

Back and neck pain, headache, shoulder injuries, hip and knee pain, tennis elbow and plantar fasciitis. We also manage people with chronic pain issues and sports injuries.

What are your thoughts on the connection between the mind and body and how this impacts an individuals’ wellbeing?

We believe there is a strong link between the mind and body and physical wellbeing is a pre-requisite for mental wellbeing and vice versa.

How do you think a person’s support network impacts their ability to stay well?

We are social human beings with connections to different individuals in a complex network.  We treasure mateship and we need to have support from one another to stay well physically, mentally, socially as well as spiritually.  A gentle tap on the shoulder, a simple word of encouragement or a quiet accompany, will have a profound impact on our ability to stay well.

Kevin, why do you enjoy being a physiotherapist?

Being a physiotherapist has allowed me to connect with the snapshot of one’s life journey.  I enjoy listening to their stories and help them relieve their symptoms in order to move well and sleep well.  Even with a brief connection with a client, I can have a positive impact on their physical and mental wellbeing.
